Smart Sacks (Sack Dinners for Kids)

Neighborhood kids join us each Monday during the school year to work on reading and homework. Each child is paired up with their very own adult tutor who will work with them throughout the year. Kids learn a lot better when their stomachs are full! Smart Sacks is a Sack Dinner Ministry that provides our kids with a healthy "on the go" dinner each Monday when they come to tutoring.

Smart Sacks is a perfect mission/outreach project for a large group that wants to do something tangible to help their neighbor. We're looking for church groups, Bible Study groups, Sunday school classes or other small groups who would be willing to put together 50 sack dinners for our Tutoring Ministry. This can be done one time or on a more consistent basis. Our goal is to give our children a nourishing and healthy sack dinner. A typical sack dinner contains:

Sandwich
Fruit and/or Vegetables
Salty Snack
- A small bag of Chex Mix, Popcorn, Pretzels, Goldfish Crackers
Small Drink Box/Pouch or Milk Box
One SMALL Dessert per child - One small cookie/brownie, mini-sized cupcakes, snack mixes, etc.

Please:
  • NO Chips
  • NO Soda
  • If you are making meat/cheese sandwiches please leave them dry (no mayo or mustard) - you are welcome to send a small bottle of mustard or mayonnaise for the kids to put on themselves. Thanks!

Want more fun? Have kids in your group decorate the bags!
Add a special note or Bible verse in each bag.

Important Info for Smart Sack Providers:
  1. Our goal is to have the Sack Dinners arrive at the church between 3:30 and 4:30 each Monday afternoon.
  2. You are welcome to have one or two people from your group stay to help pass the sacks out. You may also simply drop the sacks off if this is easier!
  3. Our goal is to feed all of our kids and also have some extra sacks available for adult tutors who might need a snack! Each week we will need 50 Sack Dinners. Any extra sack dinners will be sent home with kids to share with their families.
  4. All Sack Dinners need to be dropped off at First Avenue Church - 120 W. First Avenue. (map)
