Whiz Kids tutoring is a precious opportunity to focus on the needs of one urban child - nurturing them and helping to encourage them in their spiritual lives and schoolwork. Each volunteer has the joy of working with an inner-city student (1st grade-9th grade) throughout the school year. Tutors build a caring relationship with their student and reach out in the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Each week the tutor has one hour of one-on-one tutoring time where the focus is literacy, basic skills, encouragement and homework. The student and tutor will also be able to participate together in a weekly Bible assembly that lasts for 30 minutes and includes singing, a simple and practical Bible lesson and prayer time.
We tutor at First Avenue Presbyterian Church (near 6th and Broadway) and meet during the school year (we take off Thanksgiving week, all major holidays and have an extended Christmas Break). We also have substitutes available who can fill in during times of illness or business/family travel commitments.

Tutors are offered extensive training and there is always a local school teacher on site to assist us! We have two available sessions of tutoring and so many kids waiting for their special someone.
